the “ad preview and diagnosis tool” simulates a real auction?

Posted by seohelper on April 22, 2020 at 3:34 pm

I have this doubt since trying a search in the *ad preview* of 30 times only about 6 (20%) of the times my ad was shown, and when it was shown it was almost always in the lower part of the page.

However looking at yesterday’s insight auctions, that keyword was printed 60% of the time and 100% of the time it was printed at the top.

Is there an explanation for these differences?

I have always found that tool to be completely unreliable.

There are several differences between the tool and an auction, but you can account for some of them.

One example is the zip code you use in the tool will affect your results if competitors (or you) have location based bid modifiers.

Other bid modifiers based on audience, device, etc… can also play a part.

If you have a physical location, your ad will appear higher for searches near the location.

Keyword match types and actual search phrases will also affect position. You might type “store near me” in the tool to match +store near me, but the search query was “business near me in Motown” and your ad has Motown Business in it, so it would show higher in the auction.

    etc…
