• Styling H1s to appear like body content?

I hate the idea of stuffing keywords into H1s for the search engine’s benefit, at the expense of well-formed copy and the user’s experience.

So we were thinking of using our main page large/bold text being for the user, then further down the page the real H1 (with relevant keywords) looks like page copy.

However I recently read that Google doesn’t like that, and will consider the large/bold text as the ‘most important’ copy on the page – is that right? Is there a negative SEO effect to what I’m suggesting?

    Any advice appreciated.

I do believe that putting H1 heading anywhere other than above your content might cause some issues. It’s structural. H1 – text – H2 – text – H3 – text. With Google getting more advanced each day it might be adjusted.

Bold text is still just a text as far as I am concerned.

    Let’s just say that

Header

content is bold

    is better than

content is bold

header

I wanted to say also that browsers read your page from top to bottom. So that’s another factor to consider.

but you can definitely test it out.
