Social media helping with SEO?
Posted by kolotripa123 on June 28, 2024 at 5:04 pmHello we have a restaurant in Crete and trying to get our SEO on our website better. We have a pretty strong instagram with frequent posting and a lot of engagement and followers. Does embedding its feed/linking it or anything that links our socials to our website help with search engines?

GuestJune 28, 2024 at 5:29 pmSocial Media helps with trust signals, brand and CTR. These three items are mid-ranking factors, if you’re able to make people land on your website or even your google maps listing, then it’ll rank better.

GuestJune 28, 2024 at 6:35 pmAbsolutely! It helps. At the same time, optimize your Google Business profile. It helps to rank in the Google Maps pack, which is crucial for local businesses. One thing that has helped my client’s restaurant is posting photos and updates on GBP and sharing them on social media via GBP.

GuestJune 28, 2024 at 7:02 pmThat’s a pretty weak signal. Not enough to increase your ranking. It’s more helpful in driving your insta leads to your website and building a social signal.
As it’s a restaurant business, focus more on GBP optimization and citation building. I’ve a 200+ point checklist for local SEO, and the most important ones are complete GBP listing and updated listing.

GuestJune 28, 2024 at 8:54 pmSocial Media posts have no authority to give, and have nofollow to make sure they don’t even if they did.
People who think this just don’t understand SEO. SEO is not about trust signals, content is all verifiable because so much of it is opinion but there is absolutely no trace of a hint of social impacting SEO, even via the so called “brand effect” that so many people love clamoouring to.
Social Meda is print your own and Google specifically says it ignores links in profiles as well.
And no embedding content does not enhance or effect your SEO – there might be some words that could add and if your site “could” rank for that word and that word was on the page when it was indexed “it might” but the content would only be refreshed every now and then.

GuestJune 29, 2024 at 1:26 amI’ve only found two good reasons to embed socials:
1. If your client isn’t able to generate new content, the social will at least keep a page updating.
2. You might find an advantage to getting people to Like or Follow your social as an early step in the buyer journey. It increases the likelihood that you show up in their face at some point in the future.
But if you can get their email address that’s way more valuable. You can message them directly at scale and advertise across platforms. So figure you need to find a way to convert Likes into email addresses.
SEO-wise, if socials send clicks and google is using that Chrome traffic data as the recent link suggests, then getting people to cross over to your website would be considered a quality signal.
