It’s a very love/hate right? It’s part of my job but I understand how toxic it can be. And it doesn’t seem like these companies care enough to fix that. I think that’s probably the most frustrating part for me.

Ruin the world? Social media is a platform. It is the users of the platform that are the problem. There are bullies, haters, and angry people waiting to issue criticism. There are people who think they know more than professionals of 20 years and will argue to the point of insanity. It is the congregating place for week minds looking for someone to follow or destroy. And yet it could be an opportunity for difficult discussions to be held and ideas to be explored. Why isn’t it the latter? Why doesn’t it attract and encourage new ideas? What do people think?

Basically… it has, but that doesn’t mean it gets to ruin you.

Professionally & personally, social media is ALL ABOUT the algo. Have an algo on each platform that really does work for you – and change it up if anything you’re seeing on your TL regularly gives you negative feelings.

I also think it’s about moderation. Reddit and LI are the only ‘proper’ ones I use. I like to log/review games, music albums etc on the various cataloging apps (Letterboxd et al) but I don’t engage on there. Want to do TW but can never seem to make it work for me nor does it make me feel good about myself.

Personally I think its all about just being on one or two, and try to make it long form. Forums/Reddit/Quora, these are all places you’ll find a bit more focused topics where you may learn a thing or two rather than a stream of 10 second videos wildly unrelated to each other.
