  • Social media and content marketers, what are your tools, skills and tech stack for producing content?

Posted by seohelper on April 21, 2020 at 3:19 pm

I’ve done courses from Hubspot on content marketing, but I always get the impression from these courses I’ve learnt nothing practical about producing quality content. It’s all “content calendars” and “why content is important” and not, “Here’s how you actually make quality content – software, tools, skills”.

    I’ll start;

I use Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) to create and edit images that are shared on our website and social channels. My design skills are mediocre. Most images I post are sourced from my employers resources folder, which I search for new photos which I perceive as shareable. Any chance I get, I take new photos and videos from which I can use to create content from.

I use Google Docs to write the copy alongside HemingwayApp. I won’t go into hashtags and keywords, because I want this post to focus on content creation.

To give some context, in order to progress my career, I’m trying to identify what skills and software are best for me to master.

I really like Canva for creating good art for my content. I have the Canva Pro and it is totally worth paying for it. My main sales channel is Instagram so mos of the time we create posts for Stories and IG Timeline.

Hootsuite – for scheduling Twitter and Facebook posts

Buffer – for scheduling Instagram (hootsuite is unreliable for Insta)

Kabanflow – for planning my social media schedule in advance

Resolve – for editing together short videos

The first ones that pop up for me are:

Canva Pro – graphics for feeds and stories (pro allows us to have our color palette and fonts saved along with other extras that help the team.

Later and Planoly – both for social scheduling but for different businesses

Clipscribe – to create the square videos with the bar on top and bottom, along with captions

iMove – for quick video edits before they go into Clipscribe

Rev.com – for transcribing podcast episodes so that someone can turn it into a blog post on the site

Audio Technica AT2020 mic for podcasts and audio trainings

    GoogleDrive for storage

Trello for task and team mangement

Photoshop and Illustrator for creating custom graphics and images. If I have a ton of good assets already then I’ll use Canva because it’s so much easier.

iMovie if I need to do some basic video editing, making different social cuts etc.

GIF brewery 3 by Gfycat to make nice GIFs

Socialbakers, Hootsuite, Buffer, Salesforce (social studio), Netbase etc. for posting, social listening, and community management

Salesforce, Mailchimp, and some smaller companies for email marketing/CRM

Facebook ads manager for FB and IG

MOZ for SEO and content research

Slack and Trello for project management

Google sheets, Excel, Google data studio for reporting

I use Snappa as a better Canva alternative (IMO), and OneUp for scheduling social media posts

    **Video**

    – Promo Video Maker (Online) – I have used them to create ads on Facebook – short and effective.

-Kawping (Online) – If you are not able to download a software to edit videos – this is a good alternative. Plus their blog is pretty helpful if you are looking for content templates. I recently used one of their tutorials on how to do a Zoom Virtual Video Background.

-Adobe Premier Rush – It’s if Final Cut and Premiere Pro had a baby. Download this on your desktop and you can continue the work on your mobile.

    **Design**

-Canva Pro (Online) – The paid version gets you more stock and the ability to create your branding (font, colors, logo). Just saw they have templates with gifs included.

Tip: If you don’t see a certain gif you love, pop over to giphy, download, and upload to Canva.

    -Photoshop & Illustrator

    **Other**

Later (Online) – Great blog for Instagram Aesthetics.

Rawpixel (Online) – Stock footage for mockups and graphics

Unsplash (Online) – Stock footage for inspirational moments.
