There are ways to win at SEO without resorting to Google Ads (for example targeting local searches and map packs, while also targeting different keywords that might show fewer ads. But overall, I do this a lot while the high-value real estate on search is taken up by Ads.

Paid search has always been the faster and easier way to get seen and drive results when compared to SEO.

Smart SEO folks learn PPC and recommend it to clients because:

    * 1) PPC quickly and easily drives real results for businesses. It’s far faster to get someone business with PPC than with SEO. And you can tie those results right back to the work with ease. They can quickly see their name showing in the search results. No more trying to get them to stick with you and keep paying for months and months and months while you try to raise their visibility. The visibility is right there immediately with PPC and they’re likely to associate it with SEO and be more likely to continue investment in SEO work too.

    * 2) $$$$ Generally you take a 20-30% cut of the PPC dollars for management. That’s a lot more than you’re getting from SEO, when considering the time investment. And the scale is where the big money is. Going from a $50k a year PPC spend to $100k means going from getting paid $15k for management to getting paid $30k but it doesn’t mean doing 2x as much work. While the price of management increases, and doubles in this example, it really takes almost no additional work to manage that larger spend. Double the pay for only a tiny bit more work.

Good thinking. Organics are anyway just content marketing, and people understand that more and more now.

It is something inherently deceptive about content marketing that I dislike. It is as if the seller try to force you to think of them as honest and non-affiliated, taking the style of a previously trustworthy format.

Don’t think of it as switching. Think of it as a two pronged attack. PPC is for quick results and lead gen. SEO is long term domination of your market.

Something else to consider, some time ago the Yandex algorithm was leaked. That algorithm was created by former Google employees to resemble the Google algorithm as closely as possible. Google says that PPC doesn’t help organic traffic.

However, the Yandex leak showed that the algorithm actually does boost organic traffic for PPC clients. That’s not a guarantee, but there is enough of a correlation to give it a try and see what happens.

    First, Map is SEO.

Second, you should absolutely make yourself a full service digital marketer and not just an “SEO.”

    Also, that’s not always accurate.
