Short Rant – Sue Google – Broad Match etc…

Posted by Strayr2 on September 22, 2024 at 7:41 pm

I am sick of Google taking the piss out of clients and ripping them off.

Isn't it maybe time that we PPCer gather enough evidence and turn it over to the EU so that their behaviour is finally ended.

    Why?

I just looked at an account of Google that show ads for some ads that were "similar".

The name of competitors are not similar to things. Anybody longer than 3 months in PPC knows that competitor bidding is hardly ever worthwhile. And would only be if targetting correctly.

Last week, a client got 1000 clicks from search partners. Google didn't respond to my mail asking for a refund.

Another client noticed how the CPC climbed from 1 EUR to 7 EUR in a few months as part of their enhanced conversion CPC bidding. Except there were no conversions.

I have seen Google increase prices using their super, duper algos.

Or what about the removal of modified broad match and changed it to broad match. Of course to our advantage except Google increased their profits by billions and billions. The numbers are so sick.

My suggestion is to create an email and we just send examples of obvious Google fraud and send it over to the EU who are suing their A$$ hardcore.

Or we send all the data to some Class Act Lawyer.

The purpose is simply to get Google to offer the services they once offered. They should invite some new products instead of scamming people of their money.

Who has more money, you or Google? Who bribes more politicians, you or Google?

In that environment, who is going to win a legal fight, you or Google?

Even if you get a decent politician to start bringing this forward Google will just figure out what his magic number is and write the check

I don’t really see what EU laws Google would be breaking by doing this. Could you elaborate? EU class actions are a way to protect **consumers**’ interests and don’t really seem applicable.

What law do you think is violated by that?

Who told you to use Google? If you got bad results shift platforms. This is why you hire an expert and don’t run media yourself.

Don’t use Google, I just switched from Google to something else and it’s been 5 times more profitable. In fact, everyone in my industry dropped 70% budget on Google.

Too much click fraud on Google, cpc is too expensive, low quality leads, and now they want people to pay through debit cards and bank accounts.

Google ads are only good if u have a huge profit margin with a high conversion rate and a high rate of repeat customers. Or if u have a strong brand. If ur profits are low and no repeat customers, and ur an unknown brand, it will not be profitable.

Why did you request a refund for clicks on search partners?

If I put a video together on how to mitigate the fraud would it be valuable?

Honestly sounds like you’re not doing a great job running PPC. Leaving search partners on, CPC spiking from changing bid strategies. They’re all kind of basic business as usual events to manage.

Asking a refund from Google is something we all tried early in our careers, with the usual “Google laughs, says no”. Only time they’ve issues credits above BAU are rare moments their system bugs out and spends 5x the daily budget. Then they issue credits to shut us up

Bruh, that’s it! Why don’t we just all send an angry email and then it will be solved! I can’t believe nobody thought of this before.

Oh boy, sounds like you’ve been on a Google-induced rollercoaster ride! I feel ya, mate. It’s like Google’s playing a game of “How much can we squeeze before they squeak?”

You’re not alone in feeling like David against Goliath here. The idea of gathering evidence is pretty spicy – kinda like planning a heist, but with spreadsheets instead of ski masks.

But here’s the kicker: while we’re all grumbling about Google’s shenanigans, they’re probably inventing a new way to “optimize” our wallets as we speak. Maybe we should start a support group: “Google Ads Anonymous” – first step is admitting you have a problem, right?

All jokes aside, documenting these issues is a solid idea. Whether it’s for the EU, a lawyer, or just to keep ourselves sane, it’s worth doing. Who knows, maybe one day we’ll look back and laugh… or cry. Probably cry.
