    Hello everyone,

I’m already working in online marketing and I’m very familiar with SEA and SMA. I’d like to expand my skills and build my SEO expertise. Do you have any tips on how and where to start with SEO basics? I know SEO can be a bottomless pit, so I’m asking here for advice from experienced people.

    Thank you

Search Google for “Lean SEO site:google. com” – Google puts out a lot of content on SEO. The SEO starter Guide is a must. I recommend Matt Cutts’ videos on YouTube- he made them while head of the search quality team.

SEO works a little like PPC – Page Quality has a lot to do with SEO quality.

But there’s so much disinformation -like people claiming that things like dwell time, bounce rates, “EEAT”, UX/UI, word count, author bylines, all somehow magically affect SEO.

SEO’s biggest challenge is earning incoming authority. And basically all SEO conversations outside of on-site SEO (people believe they can somehow use on-site SEO to climb up rankings) revolve around these concepts with people with different SEO-agendas pushing and creating SEO theories to make it more complex. Like writers trying to tell people that Google “researches” articles or Tech SEOs who believe a faster page will rank first or designers who think Google gives “rewards” for nice designs….

    Enjoy!

Also, if you listen to Grumpy SEO Guy episode 21, you will understand SEO better than 50% of professionals. Take this half hour to pack yourself with knowledge that will allow you to ignore other people’s nonsense.

Otherwise, similar to what weblinkr said below, you are going to be reading a lot of stuff like this, all of which is wrong:

    – good content will make you rank better (this is false)

    – site speed matters (this is false unless you are talking minutes to load)

    – meta keywords matter (this is false)

    – EEAT is a ranking factor (this is false)

    – UX/UI are ranking factors (this is false)

    – on page time matters (this is false)

You will see people saying this is true, but NO ONE will provide evidence showing that it works. You will see content writers telling you they can write content that will rank just because it’s well written. But NO ONE will provide evidence showing that it’s possible.

If you listen to episode 21 of Grumpy SEO Guy, you will understand the main ranking factor. And there is tons of data that it works.
