I have a meeting with an SEO expert to hire him as FT work. What key questions should I ask to ensure I'm making the right investment for my e-commerce brand?

There are some standard questions that we ask applicants, when hiring for a senior SEO tech role or team lead.

However the questions do change a little depending on the situation.

If you could give me a little more information I can give you a more targeted list of questions.

    1. What are you selling?
    2. Who do you sell to?
    3. What geographic do you sell in to?

Feel free to be a bit vague on your answers, if you prefer. I just need a rough idea of the space you’re in.

Ask about their e-commerce SEO experience, results they have achieved, strategy for growth and how they will track performance and ROI for your brand.

    1) How many relevant keywords they have ranked before.
    2) Ask them to show their portfolio.
    3) Ask them questions related to technical SEO
    4) How they conduct competitor analysis for SEO content writing.
    5) How they would bring quality backlinks for a particular niche.
    6) Ask them how a six months SEO strategy would look like for a particular niche.

    Thank you.

A while back I wrote an article that lists 44 questions to ask your SEO company. You can probably easily find it if you search.

Here are a few that are relevant:

Can you describe and/or produce recent successful search engine optimization campaign results?

If so, can I use those clients for references?

Do you have web site design experience?

    What is your technical background?

What types of programming environments are you experienced with?

What are your opinions in regards to Best Practices for the SEO – Search Engine Optimization / SEM – Search Engine Marketing industry? How does a company effectively compete online using traditional optimization strategies?

Can you assure us that the search engine optimization strategies and methods that you are utilizing fall under the criteria of Best Practices for the SEO/SEM Industry? Can we assume that this means no penalties for our website?

How many search engine optimization campaigns have you been involved with?

What was your role for those projects?

How many of those search engine optimization projects are still active?

Can you show me examples of past work?

What was the client’s ROI of their search engine optimization efforts?

Can you give me references? Can I talk to one or more of your current search engine optimization clients?

What type of volume increase in traffic is reasonable to expect from search engine optimization?

How long until I start to see results?

If you won’t find any questions to ask at your end, just ask him to manipulate you to have his service, ask him to convince you with his skills. And wait to see what he’s capable of.

What’s the essence of any website? (Free form, essay like, no correct answer)

Can you give me a step by step tutorial on how to set up a website with cloaking? (in-depth knowledge, knows “a bad” technique intimately)

What’s the semantical meaning for <main> tag? Do you use it? Why, why not?

What’s the semantical meaning for <div> tag? Do you ….

These 4 questions will demonstrate: vision and scope of understanding, hands down technical and dirty, and the knowledge of intrinsically academic interpretations of what most likely is.

You should ask some questions like : 1- Must be basic knowledge of SEO if experienced then better.

2- Key words research knowledge 3- Google Search Engine Algorithms 4- Backlink building strategy. 5- Analytics knowledge.

You may go a head with initial queries .

    Thanks

I would ask what is the last Google change that made you change your approach to SEO.
