GuestNovember 10, 2023 at 1:47 pmI always base the quote on competition and size of site/time involved. It’s a big difference to jump from a landscaping company in a small town to a plastic surgeon in a big city, and the price reflects that.

GuestNovember 10, 2023 at 2:20 pmit depends on what agency do.
I do know agencies and technical seo agencies which few years ago started with prices $10k and don’t even do links or content. In such budget they can have audit and like 5-10h of consultation. They just do audit tell You what to optimize and teach You how to create content and aquire mentions/links. And work with your devs to make website work.

GuestNovember 10, 2023 at 3:02 pmI work as an SEO consultant and most of my proposals are in that range.
It really depends on what you are getting as far as deliverables and expertise as to whether that is a fair price or not.

GuestNovember 10, 2023 at 3:10 pmYou might not be the right person for an agency if you don’t understand the pricing structure.
It’s unclear what your offer includes and you’re being vague intentionally, which isn’t helpful. It seems like you’re gauging what others offer to gain leverage on your potential partner. And if that’s the case, I hope for the sake of the agency you decide to take the work in house.
Beyond the deliverables, you get a team of people who work on your website for a determined amount of time. You also get information from agency tech tools that are supremely expensive.
That saves you on health care coverage, tech tool expenses, salaries, potential HR issues, and so many other expenses that makes a good agency well worth the money.
And no, I don’t work for an agency—I did for 5 years. But I’m in house now.

GuestNovember 10, 2023 at 3:33 pmImpossible to judge without knowing the details of the plan. It really depends on the amount of hours, strategy et cetera

GuestNovember 10, 2023 at 3:41 pmIf it includes massive amounts of content, massive amounts of Backlinks, website restructuring for better architecture, and you have seriously SEO’ed competitors then yes. But I would expect very detailed deliverables for that amount. If you want a review and gap analysis I could tell you if it’s worth it. I do white label for multiple agencies.

GuestNovember 10, 2023 at 3:49 pmI worked at corporate companies and left due to being fed up with overpriced contracts and incompetent co-workers. I felt like maybe only 20% of everyone around me cared. A lot of times the shift ended at 5pm and I would stay until 6pm because I knew what I had to finish.
Others would hang out near the main doors at 4:30pm. And it’s not that I was slow. We could see everyone elses work. But they’re weren’t doing nearly as much and taking breaks constantly. The owners and higher ups were the same way. I mean the customers don’t know any difference and they’re paying for it, right?
I was not down with that and I left. Started my own thing and it’s been great to be honest. I usually ask for budget to see where their head is at. If I felt they only needed to spend $5,000, and they have a budget of $10,000. $5k could be saved or used for adspend if they really needed. The goal is to see their landscape first and what a typical customer brings them.
I also ask this because then I know where we can add or cut things that help but aren’t drivers in what they ABSOLUTELY need.
But as for pricing, one size doesn’t fit all unfortunately. My packages are broken down into the basics (bread and water), a great foot in the door, kicking doors down, and then from there it’s broken down into location amount.
But industry plays a huge role too. For example a lawyer in the heart of NYC might cost $20k+ a month just in SEO without ads because of the overpopulation of competitors. There’s 9 lawyers per 1,000 people in NYC. That’s insane.
If we niche that down into personal injury attorneys for example, then we get into the research we need. Then we can decide on the potential number of articles/pages, what our competition looks like, and if we need ads.
A lot of agencies will want to start with ads and throw money at it. I mean, it’s not theirs so why not right?
I don’t like that approach. I like to set the tone with landscape and at least put them on the map first, then we become a threat to the competitors. I wish SEO was faster but it’s unpredictable. Algorithms change, things get indexed one month, and not indexed the next. All I can really say is just make sure that you find someone that’s honest and upfront.
I know it’s hard but here’s a great question to ask. “what can you guarantee me”. If they give you a definite answer, they’re probably lying and just want the contract. You want someone that knows the game and will steer you through in the right direction and not give you false promises. But if the agency understands the basics of SEO, and has a good plan in place, chances are, you will see some results. Any effort is better than no effort. But where they put their focus MoM is key.
So hopefully you can take away something from this. Without knowing any of your details, it’s hard to say whether 10k a month is good because I don’t know the scope of work, industry, area, or what they’re offering.
Best of luck to you.

GuestNovember 10, 2023 at 3:52 pmYou’re in medium-large agency with that sort of price and without knowing any further details it sounds about right.

Without expanding on “optimization and content,” nobody will be able to answer you.
