When you are in a meeting with a lead, whats the amount of months you want to sign them for?

1) You want to make sure they understand that SEO is a forever ongoing investment.
2) Google is quoted as saying 4-12 months to see results, you want to tie them in for 9-12 months to be sure they hang around long enough to see your work results.
Sometimes, for skittish clients, who have a legitimate and specific concern, we will do a 3 month trial, and be very open with the actual tasks we do, but it’s a clesr understanding that they won’t see any results by then, and we’ll expect a 12 month commitment after that.

I don’t lock them in for any amount of time. Only thing that gets locked in for my contracts is the price.

I’m very glad to be reading these comments. I just got into learning SEO again, and I’m really good with adwords… and I wanted to learn more about WordPress until I can build a whole site…
My question is, how much should I charge a client if they just ask me to do on page optimization and work on boosting like 2 keywords or pages of theirs for organic ranking (which will mostly constitute building backlinks for them right?) ?
Any advice you guys have for me would be great as I am kind of intermediate I guess though I am just learning about backlinks and how to go about them. Thank you.

No one can give a specific time period for ranking due to various reasons including google updates etc, but approx time totally depends on niche competition. 4 to 6 for a normal competition and around 11 to 12 for tough competition.

I used to charge per month; however, I now offer 12-month subscriptions. I also offer a one time fee to go in and optimize the website for technical and on-page SEO.

I do month to month with our clients. Realistically you see results in under a month, you don’t see traffic driving or first page results.
But you deffinitely see movement on keyword positions like from 45 to 35 for example.
We track keywords and show that as progress. So we don’t need to lock anyone in for long term.
But we do charge a startup fee to cover initial research costs.

We closed for 12 month but after 6 month we evaluate the performance.
