ahrefs, since I’ve used it the most. Their backlink checking and IP checked is beneficial.

Their pricing is so annoying. I accidentally went over last month. Here’s your invoice. And I had like 300 unused credits at the end of the month. Is there crossover? NOPE.

SEMrush is great but I just don’t use it as often.

If you want a keyword tool that is less costly, look at keysearch.co.

ahrefs is going to lose users with their credit system. It really is a great tool, but their invoicing is infuriating. They make it easy to accidentally go over (yes, you can set limits, but it’s not intuitive nor is it suggested) and then if you go over, you can’t use your credits the next month. So how much additional money do you spend?

it is a tool. You need to tell us what you are going to use it for.

For technical SEO, you go with a native crawler hands down. **Screaming Frog** is my go to because you can connect APIs and the crawl configs are unparalleled. If you struggle to understand the data in SF – stop, take a breath, and realize you don’t know how crawlers work…. and therefore G. You need to learn that stuff to even call yourself and SEO.

99% of what you get from the other tools is their access to keyword and backlink data from them crawling the web at scale.

I have always found Ahrefs data to be more accurate… so as long as you know what to do with it… thats your winner. Don’t use hrefs to crawl sites and don’t listen to their rubbish around ‘link quality’ etc.

Get the data, use it to do your work. Again… if you don’t know how to do that… stop and go do some learnings.

SEO Arcade is a really good option if you want access to Ahrefs and SEMrush data btw and just want a basic keyword report alone with top competitions. Honestly… it is dumb cheap for what you get.

Honestly, I only pay for SEMrush and Ahrefs out of laziness. You can get by real easy using other sites that pull from their API data.

For data on your **own** website – you use GSC. End of story. That is the most accurate and therefore what you use.

Use the API to get access to the full data set. The Analytics Edge add on for Excel does a great job at that.

I use Semrush when checking spam links, but I generally use Ahrefs when doing site audits and keyword analysis for projects. However, I should also point out that semrush makes my job easier when doing competitor analysis.

Ahrefs was super useful for backlink analysis but their price increase has been way OTT.
Semrush is still really useful and the PM features are solid. The UI needs a bit of updating.

I’ve gone back and forth but I’m currently paying for Semrush just because I find it a little more intuitive.

Both SEMrush and Ahrefs are powerful tools for SEO and digital marketing, and each has its own strengths. The “best” tool for you depends on your specific needs, preferences, and budget. Here’s a comparison to help you decide:

    1. **Features**: Both tools offer a wide range of features including keyword research, backlink analysis, competitor analysis, site auditing, rank tracking, and more. SEMrush tends to have a stronger focus on keyword research and competitive analysis, while Ahrefs is known for its robust backlink analysis capabilities.
    2. **Keyword Research**: SEMrush provides comprehensive keyword research data, including search volume, keyword difficulty, related keywords, and more. Ahrefs also offers similar features, but some users find its keyword database to be slightly smaller compared to SEMrush.
    3. **Backlink Analysis**: Ahrefs is widely regarded as one of the best tools for backlink analysis, offering detailed insights into a website’s backlink profile, including referring domains, anchor text distribution, and more. While SEMrush also offers backlink analysis, some users prefer Ahrefs for its depth and accuracy in this area.
    4. **User Interface**: SEMrush and Ahrefs both have user-friendly interfaces, but some users may find one more intuitive than the other. It often comes down to personal preference and which interface you find easier to navigate.
    5. **Pricing**: Pricing is an important factor for many users. Both SEMrush and Ahrefs offer various pricing plans to suit different needs and budgets. SEMrush tends to have slightly more affordable entry-level plans, but Ahrefs may offer more advanced features in its higher-tier plans.
    6. **Customer Support**: Both SEMrush and Ahrefs offer customer support through various channels, including email, chat, and knowledge bases. Some users may have different experiences with the responsiveness and helpfulness of each platform’s support team.

Ultimately, it’s a good idea to try out both SEMrush and Ahrefs to see which one better meets your specific requirements and workflow. Many professionals use a combination of both tools to get the most comprehensive insights into their SEO and digital marketing efforts.

Website Auditor, broad match for a month and then search query report.

Or you can use someone else’s database, learn out of date metrics, and think that is seo.

Semrush is much better. I only have Ahrefs due to their legacy pricing.

Ahrefs sucks and most good internet marketers are moving away from it.

I would chose Ahref, it helps me a lot to understand the backlinks, DA & DR. While SEMrush doesn’t have precision like, Ahref shows DA that’s even below 10 but SEMrush directly marks it as 0. So we couldn’t see the improvements in SEMrush unless the score reaches a round off. That’s one of the major thing I use Ahref for…

I am working in a startup so spending on these tools is very expensive so i am using keyword planner, search console, free backlinks checker & checkbytools etc.
