Selling Themes and Adding Backlinks
I am selling website themes. Is it a good idea to add a backlink to my web design business on these themes? Or would it have negative consequences being viewed as toxic/spam because these are probably all new websites?

Hi, yes, it’s against Google guidelines, so it’s risky. I would recommend adding a nofollow attribute to these links so that you are safe from a possible penalty in the future.

This used to be more common place, you see it less these days.
On a professional level I would argue if you are selling the themes you should be leaving links in. If they are free however, I would say you have the right.
I feel like whether it is “toxic” or not comes down to scale. Would I personally want thousands of these types of links? No. Would a few hurt? I don’t think so.
