Seeking Career Advice: At a Crossroads and Need Guidance
Hello everyone,
It took me 1 week to write this, so please be kind 🙂
I’ve been working in SEO for 7 years, focusing on the legal niche for the last 2 years. Currently, I’m the SEO Team Lead at not so well known company but well known owner (he has many tv/podcast
appearances
, he was invited to many SEO conferences, wrote 5+ books on SEO) but I’m facing some challenges and need advice.**My Job Situation:**
1. I manage 15 clients, each paying a lot (some up to $40k a month, minimum is 10k). Our work is minimal – just a few posts and backlinks and 20-30 hours worth of deliverables like ONPage Audit / CRO / Content Analysis etc. (In my humble opinion, for this budget I’d offer much more but because owner’s name is so respected, people are willing to pay thousands of dollars)
2. The company is letting people go and hiring VAs instead. I’m the last SEO Team Lead left.
3. I was promised a great workplace (monthly company meetings, employees activities etc.), but it’s not what I expected. It feels like the company doesn’t care about its employees.**What I’ve Tried:**
1. I gave feedback to the CEO about improving things (a 3000 words email that was end 1 year ago), we had few zoom calls but nothing changed.
2. I attempted to start my own SEO business, reaching out to potential clients, but had no success. (I did somwhere 8-9 loom videos, 15minutes+ and didn’t get a reply)
3. I dabbled in affiliate marketing, earning a bit, but it wasn’t enough.
4. I’ve applied to over 50 jobs and made it to the final stages of 6 interviews (Europe), but then I never heard back. Most U.S. companies have been rejecting me, without any interview.**Other Info:**
* I’m based in Europe, working remotely for this U.S. company at $33 an hour (full-time).
* I’m the kind of person who constantly experiments and tries new things in SEO. (Created a Full AI Content Website, MREID Schema, Indexing API, Cora SEO etc.)I’m not sure what to do next. Should I stick with my current job, try to launch my own business again, or find a different path in SEO? Any advice or insight would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
