Run out of time & options
I received a notice last night that my unemployment benefits will run out in two weeks. I've been pounding LinkedIn for six months with barely a nibble on my resume and applications. I've worked in SEO for ten years and digital marketing for fifteen.
Election season, interest rates, and panic around AI have pushed thousands out of their field. I'm just one of those numbers. These circumstances come in cycles, but they are more painful this time. Marketing is cruel and unforgiving, with few rewards and less satisfaction. SEOs are paranoid, isolated, and spiteful. I've tried to take an optimistic, human-value, and user-first approach to my SEO practice, and it falls on deaf ears and dead eyes.
It's time to part ways with Marketing Technology and find something different. I'm unsure what that is – I need to take care of my family. But something needs to change.
