  • Recommendations for pitching to brands/marketing agencies?

Howdy! A friend and I run an account in the travel space, specifically road trip content. We have specific brands that we’d love to work with like tourism boards and a few apparel companies. Currently, we will send an email or DM (plus sometimes a media kit) to try to get new deals. This works sometimes but honestly our most success has come from marketing agencies reaching out to us (but that’s doesn’t happen as often as we’d like).

If you’re a creator, what has worked best for you when pitching/reaching out to brands?

If you work for an agency/brand, what do you like to see when a creator reaches out to you?

General rule – coming to them makes your brand -company looks cheap.

I think the key is to have genuine interest and a level of investment in that brand already, e.g. you’re a consumers/fan/advocate of their product/service (and showcase how). Find areas where you can see where they could improve, and offer suggestions (for free). Build the relationship over pitching cold, in other words.

You can DM any brand or tourism board. But they’ll only care if 1) you have high quality content 2) your account is big enough and strictly original content (typically 200-300K on Instagram to get paid gigs) and 3) you have high engagement – over 5% on Instagram. If you don’t meet all three criteria, they wont be interested.
