GuestApril 10, 2020 at 9:45 pmIt’s a rough time for… a lot of places. I’m the SEO department head for a marketing agency and a ton of clients are cutting budgets. We haven’t had to let anyone go yet, but, that’s likely coming if this keeps up for several months. We’re not really in a position to hire anyone as a result and I assume most agencies are in the same boat.
Perhaps a good time to collect unemployment and hone your skills on your own. Learn some web dev, graphic design, literally anything else that could be useful in digital marketing. Wouldn’t hurt to make an attempt at freelance work — real estate agents are bound to see increased business as prices fall across the housing market, so that’s a good way to get a client base and build a portfolio for yourself that you can use to build on.

GuestApril 10, 2020 at 11:39 pmIf you are a content focused SEO (vs. tech SEO for example), then a certification in copy writing would be a very appealing asset imo when hiring.

GuestApril 11, 2020 at 12:22 amTo prepare to apply for jobs and stand out from the mix of applicants – create case studies of your work. Before and after and what did you do to arrive there.
This can be in a word doc, make sure to include images. Let me know if you want a template ?

GuestApril 11, 2020 at 2:34 amThat stinks. Rank high locally and that’ll be the best advertising you can get. Maybe grab some small gigs until something better comes along. Pease.

GuestApril 11, 2020 at 4:32 amSo sorry to hear. This is uncharted territory and I know a lot of SEO firms are taking big hits.
Honestly, with our agency we have never looked at certifications. We DO look at rankings and interesting tactics that obtained those rankings along with documentation to back up how the results were achieved.
Take the SEMRush or Moz course, but put the time and effort in on your portfolio.
