Rankings Dropped After Redirect, will they come back?
Hey guys, so I have a question – I’ve recently, had two pages under two keywords that were rankings pretty well under a few keywords, one page settled in the 3rd or 4th page under a few keywords while the other was the same positioning under another few keywords. (I know the 3rd and 4th page isn’t well but in my eyes, it’s better than position 75)
I did a 301 redirect and added some schema markups to each page – one page didn’t do much damage, it probably went down to like the 6th or 7th page on a few keywords while the other one dropped significantly, one keyword it went from 23-43 within a day and even completely lost rankings to some keywords we were shooting for. To note as well, the old pages before they were redirected didn’t have much content on them, so I decided to use the new pages with better content and actually answered a lot of the questions that were being asked surrounding that keyword (the company did a rebrand expansion)
I know with 301s rankings drop for a bit but eventually make their way back, but It’s been a week and I’m getting a bit paranoid so I’m here asking for some advice to make sure what I did was right:
All I did was apply the 301 redirects from the old page to the new (the reason I did that was the URL was too long and I felt a shorter straight forward URL would suffice for example:
old URLs were transitioned from a long URL as it was an extension of another page to a shorter straight forward URL
I think I added enough sufficient content and even put any internal links opening up in the same tab rather than the new tab. The average for that keyword was 500 words – I put 800-1000 words.
Then I started posting third-party blogs like Medium, Quora, and even Reddit (I know these aren’t sufficient backlinks that are really strong but I’m doing this until I get any good contact with any backlinks)
I’ve added Schema Markups and Schema FAQ on each page as well.
Please let me know if I missed anything or any clarity on this situation from your experience.
