  • Problem With Indexing – Noindex tag

Posted by Riggley29 on October 13, 2022 at 8:13 am

So, I am having a huge problem.

I have a relatively new website, which is about a month old. Most of my site’s main pages are indexed EXCEPT for the homepage.

When looking in Google’s Search Console, it says the homepage is not indexed due to a “noindex” tag.

However, I’ve looked in the http header, .htaccess, robots.txt, in WordPress’s settings, the XML sitemap, and in the Yoast SEO plugins … and I can’t find ANYTHING that is generating a “noindex” tag.

I am at a loss and feeling super frustrated at the moment.

Can anyone with some experience dealing with this issue provide some clarity? (The YouTube and Google articles I’ve read all talk about the things I just mentioned – which as I said, don’t seem to be generating a “noindex” tag at all.)

    Thanks in advance!

Without knowing the websites address its hard to check as you already mentioned all the usual ways to check for noindex tags.

If you send me the link I could take a quick look.

Did you look in the HTML source code itself? That’s one that isn’t mentioned in your list. In Firefox or Chrome, right-click and choose “view page source” (not “inspect”). Then search for “noindex” there.

(By HTTP header, I’m assuming that you’re referring to the `X-Robots-Tag` header, not the `<head>` of the HTML source code.)

What is possible is that if you dont have DNS settings setup for both https://www.domain.com as well as [https://domain.com](https://domain.com) then you can get a redirect.

For example if you have only set up [https://domain.com](https://domain.com) and you redirect www requests (or any other request) to [https://domain.com](https://domain.com) so solve this by making a www DNS record.

There are a number of potential reasons why your homepage is not indexed. The most common reason is that your website is new and it takes time for search engines to crawl and index new websites. Another possibility is that your website is not well-linked, and search engines are having difficulty crawling it. If you have submitted your website to search engines and it is still not indexed, you can try resubmitting it or contacting the search engine directly for assistance.

**Also, you need to check for DNS settings for your domain.**

Go to edit the home page scroll to the bottom go to the Yoast section click the advanced tab and see if it is set to no index. If it is change it. Other trouble shooting option click on settings left side > reading> make sure the check box is not checked to discourage Search engines from indexing.
