Hey all! I’m new to the group, please remove if not allowed.

I work for a research center that is using social media to engage with our target community which is about the size of a small neighborhood. Our goal is to educate, share resources, and engage with this community in a meaningful way.

Normally, we would visit the community and host in-person events, but COVID is preventing us from engaging in those activities. The group is private and must remain that way for this project in order to keep our target communities separate. This group is a new challenge for me, I’m used to large, public-facing pages/groups.

The group has about 60 members, which is a start, but I’ve been noticing only about 20 members are seeing my posts. This is very frustrating because we are doing good work around recruitment and all of that work seems silly when a majority of our members aren’t evening seeing the posts.

How can I ensure more of our group members see my posts and boost engagement? I would love any suggestions you have!

Encourage people to turn on and keep “in-app” notifications to “all posts” and “push notifications” to “highlights”.

I would personally take a look at your group pages analytics (which are available if the Facebook page is listed as a business or community, i think). Take a look at your audience. Are they young folks? Older folks? Are they more active in the morning? Evening? Afternoons?

Your content should match your audience and if you only got 20, figure out how to use those 20 get another 20. Can they have spouses or roommates join the page?

Engage with them! 80% of a business comes from 20% of their customers. Use that same mindset to have meaningful engagement with your folks.

Remember Facebook likes high engagement and consistency more than anything else. As u/borayds has mentioned, encourage people to turn on notifications as well as actively engage with even just those 20 in the group.
