Ok, Let Me Try This Again…

Posted by seohelper on March 4, 2020 at 3:49 am

    Hi guys!

I recently posted asking for some advice on setting up Google Ads for your own Agency.

I have done Google and Facebook Ads for clients that range from Emergency Rooms to Car Shops. Every one has performed exceptional, with a higher than industry average CTR and CR. This was directly measured using Call Rail and iPads in our clients office (for ER’s).

I apologize for the long explanation but I want to emphasis that I have done this before so that those who have had bad experiences with agencies don’t target me.

QUESTION: I had done a test run earlier in February and had gotten users with commercial intent and removed keywords that would attract job applicants. We had a good amount of traffic and Crazy Egg showed that our users were engaged. Even though this was the case Google Ads gave us a low quality score (4-5) no matter what changes I made to the ad copy and our conversions were relatively low.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how did you overcome it?

    Thanks!

Isn’t quality score also a function of the competitor quality? Maybe you ate really good but they are exceptional and that’s affecting the score?

Your question is reasonable but I doubt you’re going to get a helpful response without showing us your full campaign. Quality Scores are known to be idiosyncratic and it is very hard to provide advice without knowing all of the details.

Most of the time people have low QS which they think they should be higher they are broad/BMM/phrase match keywords which map to a wide variety of terms.

Take a look at the SQR and make sure your ads are relevant for all of the terms you are serving across.

I’m just going to say this…F QUALITY SCORE! As long as you get results, who cares? Would the advertiser prefer 8-10 and no conversions or 3-5 with conversions…So much time wasted on this stupid score. Structure your ad groups with closely related terms and include the KWs in your ads, land them on the best possible page, mine the search term report for negatives and optimize the campaign. Don’t overthink it and waste a bunch of time setting up SKAGs or some other “trick” to improve QS.
