Not getting clicks Google search campaign

Posted by Homelanderr05 on August 25, 2024 at 11:49 am

I launched a lead generation campaign that performed well in the first month. I used a maximum clicks bidding strategy and in the second month when the ads started to underperform I switched to a max conversion bidding strategy. Still not getting lead. I am seeing this in keywords
“This keyword is eligible to run ads
    Ad showing in search results?
    An ad isn't showing now
    • This keyword is not triggering ads to appear on Google right now due to a low Ad Rank. Ads are ranked based on your bid and ad quality.

Can you suggest potential reasons for this decline and offer some guidance?

I’m in the same boat. But I wouldn’t switch to a max conversion till you have at least 30 conversions a month. No data yet for Google to decide who to run the ads to.

My issue I believe was a negative keyword I added accidentally that was conflicting with my search keywords. Make sure you don’t have conflicting search/negative keywords.

Based on what you’ve said in the comments I suspect the problem is that you’re showing ads to people who aren’t actually looking for an HVAC installation or service (depending on what you do). That happens when you use broad and phrase match keywords to try and increase the reach of your ads without being very careful (loads of negative keywords, a decent number of conversions, dependable conversion tracking and conversion-based bidding).

I’m willing to bet that if you looked at your search terms report you’d find that your ads were showing in response to searches that are only vaguely related to what you do. If you don’t know where to find the search terms report or how to interpret it give me a shout and I’ll show you.

If this was my problem I’d probably only target exact match keywords to start out with. I know that you’d get less reach, but there are only x number people with an HVAC problem in the area you can service. Showing ads to people outside this area (Google’s default) or who might only vaguely be interested in what you do (broad or phrase match) isn’t going to magically make more people need HVAC help.

I suspect that your meeting with the Google Ads person on Monday will be a waste of time. The advice from the people they hire to ‘help’ with smaller accounts isn’t worth a barrel of warm spit. In fact, a lot of their suggestions will make your performance worse. (Don’t trust me on this, search this sub for Google rep and read about other people’s experiences.)

If you have low conversion volume switching to a conversion based bid strategy will cause traffic to decrease

If you switch bidding type, you put it back into learning mode. Change it back to maximise clicks or manual cpc, and it will probably start again almost immediately.

Otherwise, the learning mode can go for weeks.

Do you have a conversion tracker set up for tracking conversions?

Are your ads rated as excellent? It could be a variety of things.
