Newbie question regarding keyword difficulty
Posted by Melodic_Giraffe on November 13, 2022 at 12:17 pmHi guys! I’m pretty new to SEO so I guess this will be a rookie question:
\- if, let’s say I have an article written for the keyword “X” and it has a keyword difficulty of 90. I’m not ranking for that.
\- I also have an article written for “Y”, which has a keyword difficulty of 15, which I’m ranking for.
\- Will somehow my website’s authority grow and start ranking for “X” as well?
I hope this makes sense. Thank you!

GuestNovember 13, 2022 at 12:24 pmI would worry less about keyword difficulty and other third part metrics (DA, DR, etc..) and just focus on putting out good content.

GuestNovember 13, 2022 at 4:55 pmJust a note:
“Keyword difficulty” is a made up BS metric by tools that have NO idea how to rank or what is entailed in it.
you might as well use astrology to tell you how difficulty a keyword is.
To judge keyword difficulty properly you need ot join an seo course or mastermind group.
lmk i have a private list of them. not allowed to post it here

GuestNovember 13, 2022 at 5:55 pmThink of your blog as a restaurant. The high difficult Keyword is like trying to cook the same dish everyone in your area not already make, but are really good at it. Who would come to your restaurant to try your dish as an unknown with no reputation.
the low difficult keyword would be you making a dish not many in your area make. You are more likely to get people to come in and try it.
now if that dish is amazing. And you have several like it, all amazing. Eventually peop,e start talking about your place and recommending it (Backlinks). That’s how you build up your site. And enough of these lesser known dishes will eventually lead to your popular dish being tried. Or more difficult keyword starting to rank.
it’s an odd analogy, but it helps to make sense of it all

GuestNovember 13, 2022 at 7:42 pmBacklinks will def be more efficacious overall, but don’t forget (or if you didn’t know), they need to be “relevant” for whatever category you’re hoping to rise in.
If I’m getting your point (which you didn’t clearly state imho), if you’re asking if you can rank for a harder keyword under the same topic b/c you start showing up for on a weaker one, it partially depends on if you continue doing well with other weaker keywords under the same umbrella. Have you heard of “topical authority?” I’d suggest reading a bit more on that, if you haven’t.
Example: I have a site that I’ve barely done any backlink building, which we all know can help immensely. It ranks #1 or close to for 57 keywords that are “n/a” in SEMRush’s KW difficulty which generated 602 clicks and 6831 imps in the past 28 days (GSC). It also ranks #9.82 on average according to GSC as well for a 62% difficulty 4 letter kw that honestly shocks me sometimes it does so well.
There are other factors too and that’s the whole thing about SEO, it’s never about just one thing.

GuestNovember 14, 2022 at 11:19 amA long mile journey starts with a small step. To reach fame and popularity, first, you need to gain attention in your local community. Start from less keyword-difficult articles and apply various DM strategies to rank the post. You will get traffic from long-tail search keywords. It will get you experience and slowly helps you grow over time. Parallelly, your audience will grow.
Success in blogging takes time and you have to keep showing up everyday on all digital platforms.
