We all know that YouTube is the biggest platform and it also has short video features. Now, the time for short videos has increased to 3 minutes which I find boring. What are your thoughts on these recent updates…..

Yuck. Three minutes is not a “Short” video.

Here is the source BTW: https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/tall-updates-coming-to-shorts/

It’s good if you are cross posting content from TikTok to shorts. Now you don’t lose the back end of the video so avoids the need to re edit and trim them down

It starts Oct 15th. I think this is a way for them to bring over TikTok creators so they can see the power of YouTube.

3 minutes is too much. Psychologically, the 5-10 seconds of the reel video hooks an audience, and then only the viewer will see a 60-90 secs video, but 3 minutes? Nah uh

The increase of YouTube Shorts to 3 minutes is a pretty big shift from the usual quick, snappy format. While it gives more room for creators to tell a story or share more detailed content, I can understand how it might feel boring or too long for some, especially since the appeal of Shorts was their short, fast-paced nature. It could be that this change is aimed at competing more with TikTok and Instagram Reels, which also allow for slightly longer videos.

Personally, I think it depends on the content. For creative or informational videos, 3 minutes might work well, but for entertainment or quick tips, the shorter time might still be more engaging. What do you think? Do you think longer Shorts will keep viewers’ attention or will it affect how you consume content on YouTube?

We can still make 15-second videos, so whatever, but now we’re gonna have to be hit with 3-minute videos. Can we filter by time?

I think I’m okay with this. Both as a (possible) creator and as a viewer.

I’ve watched like 8 or 10 min TikToks before. I agree it’s not really “short” at that point, like the name. Just has to be super interesting / something I really want to learn.
