    Negative Keyword Confusion

Posted by Valuable-Paper-4871 on July 19, 2023 at 6:54 pm

At first I had almost 6000 negative broad keywords but then that was the reason I wasn’t getting any impressions, but now I removed all of them almost a week ago.

Since then iv’e decided to only add exact negative keywords as they appear. However the problem with this is I keep getting irrelevant searches.

I run a pressure washing business and I don’t want to keep getting searches like pressure washing machine, etc. How exactly am I supposed to prevent this?

For your specific industry this is extremely difficult as Googles AI doesn’t understand that fine line between the phrase pressure washer and pressure washing. It will be a challenge to only block the product searches.

Try adding the single words in phrase match as well as the full phrase in exact match. I haven’t had a straight answer from Google on whether or not the negative keywords also block slight variations or not, but adding the single offending word and the whole phrase seems to work over time.

Also be sure to add the keyword column in you search terms table so you can see if there’s a pattern with a single keyword pulling most of the irrelevant product searches.
