I’m very frustrated with my boss today.
It is my second month as a social media manager for our local thrift store and he decided to have a chat with me about my posting.
For the first month I had been posing high quality posts with hours of effort put into photographing, editing, and captions.
I get a call saying that i need to be posing 3-5 posts a day. A day. I explain that’s not possible because it would lower the quality of our posts and he said he didn’t mind. He told me to “take a photo, add a caption, and post”
So, i did exactly that. I would snap a photo of an item against the rack, edit the lighting, and add the caption then post.
Today he got mad that I was “not putting enough effort into the post”
He said he didn’t hire me to take photos bc he can do that. So i tried to explain that editing takes time and it will be hard to post 3-5 posts a day at the quality he wants.
He told me he will TEACH me to photograph the items… and that i won’t have to edit. ????????‍♀️
He showed me old instagram posts that i should be using as a guide and they looked AWFUL. Idk what to do at this point but i’m too tired to care. Augh

Maybe do everything in one batch? Take all the picture, then process them, the write the captions and schedule the posts? Can that get you to 3-4 a day?

Been there. Learn from my mistake of trying to change their minds (because no matter what you will always be wrong and they will always be right) just do what they want and get paid. While you are getting paid, find other ways to be creative and take the pictures you want to take, edit them, and put them in your portfolio so you can find another position somewhere else where they actually understand social media. Trust me, owners like that will never EVER understand. You’ve got this though!! Don’t get discouraged. After my horrible experience, I found a position where they let me lead creatively and actually manage the media lol ???? Wishing and hoping the best for you!

Batch, schedule, & detach from giving a shit about the artistry. He wants high-turnover junk, just churn that out. Not like you have you put your name on the pictures 🙂
