  Migrating from Shopify to custom coded site. What should we do to maintain SEO and ranking?

  Hello, we have an established Shopify website for our local business and we are moving to a new custom coded website. We are not changing the domain, just the site. Any pointers for SEO through this transition?

  1. Run a crawl and take stock of all your URLs (only HTML pages really matter)
  2. Using Google search console (or analytics) identify your top traffic driving pages.
  3. If those pages will live at a different URL on the new site, create a 301 plan to redirect your priority pages (and ideally as many pages as possible).
  4. Work with dev of the new site to implement the 301 redirects (probably through htaccess rules)

  I’m assuming you will have different URLs on the new site because shopify usually used a lot of “collection” URLs that classic landing pages or PLPs do not.
