Has anyone else noticed how google is starting to move past meta descriptions? I'll edit something on the page (not the meta description) and then go to search console to ask for it to be re-indexed and then the following day the meta description isn't being used on the SERP, it's just the first text on the page. It's happened multiple times. Has anyone else noticed it?

Meta descriptions are not directive. You can set them but Google can use something else from the page content. It’s been like that for years.

Yes, I’ve noticed that too! Google seems to be pulling more from the page content itself rather than using the meta description, even after re-indexing. It’s definitely becoming more common.
