  • Managing Social Media – as a (small) company owner

Even though I’m not a professional social media manager, I still need to manage my own social media presence as a business owner. I’m wondering if anyone can recommend a dedicated tool that is suitable for managing social media as a company owner?

I have previously tried tools like Hootsuite and Buffer, but found them to be quite complex for my needs. I recently came across Postproval, which is a simple and streamlined tool, but it’s still mainly geared towards freelancers. Nevertheless, I am currently testing it out and it seems to be my best option so far.

Do any of you have any other recommendations for tools that would work well for a business owner managing their own social media channels? I’d greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions you might have. Thank you!

It sounds like you’re asking for a scheduler, to put together posts, and schedule when they’re posted at a later date.

For different platforms, there are different tools you can use.

For Facebook, Meta has it’s own scheduling tool now, which you can also schedule Instagram posts.

If there’s any other platforms you wish to use, let me know, I can recommend other tools.

Personally, as a marketer myself, I could never recommend a client manage their own social media.

There are many reasons for this, but mostly it comes down to the goals of the business.

For example, there are still many business owners today that believe posting on Facebook is a valuable marketing strategy. This is almost NEVER true.

Why? Because of the market penetration that facebook posting delivers.

Right now, a facebook post will be displayed in the feed of less than 2% of the business pages followers. of that 2%, only around 25-50% visuality, and even less engagement can be expected.

This means for every facebook post, expect only .25% engagement, and even less return on the investment of your time.

this is time better spent elsewhere for almost all business owners, who are blindly posting on facebook, and hoping for results.

Depending on the strategy (growing followers, branding, marketing (sales ads with intended ROI), different things need to be put into place.

Shoot me a DM, if you’d like to know more about the idiosyncrasies of social media marketing, and best practices for different results.

Try later.com. We’ve used this for years after trying quite a few. For the price, it’s a simple solution to schedule posts. We tried Meta’s business manager tool, but encountered enough issues, preventing us from being able to rely on it.

Contrary to many opinions, Facebook is still relevant if your target demographic aligns with “general market.” FB is essentially the “network tv/cable tv/radio” of social networks, based on user base alone. You will likely notice less engagement than IG, but it’s still useful esp to augment an original content plan with targeted and paid ads.

I appreciate all of your feedback. At the moment, I have signed up for a paid subscription on Postproval because of its simplicity and the impressive level of responsiveness from their support team.
I opted for the monthly plan to ensure that I have the option to switch to a different tool if necessary. They promised me automatic reporting by July, so I am curious to see if they follow through with that. Are there any other affordable tools that offer monthly reporting capabilities?
