  • Lost number one positions, got them back, then lost them again?

Posted by dbzmark on October 13, 2023 at 12:12 am

Following the August core updates we lost a lot of rankings, but with improved content we clawed a lot of them back, regaining number one positions on a lot of our key pages as a result. A few days ago, our key page completely tanked, but loads of keywords came back into position 1 yesterday. This evening, nowhere to be seen on Google again

Anyone else experiencing stuff like this? Does this sound like my problem or is Google all over the place at the moment?

Dropping from wherever you are, to way lower, and then back a day or so later, and then decreasing again, and then back, is indicative of a penalty. Usually it’s a keyword stuffing penalty or optimization penalty. This is decreasing a decent amount of positions, and then back, like from 2 to 30, to 2, to 30, to 2, to 30, etc. Not like 2 to 5 to 2 to 5. Share your serp chart and I’ll tell you.

Do you really think its a case of you not knowing something vs $250bn of engineering man power – genuinely curious?
