Looking for Google Ads managment services. Agency or freelance. Any recommendations?

Posted by BestBaronOfBeef on December 28, 2022 at 5:08 pm

b2b saas. I have a fair amount of experience doing ppc but I can’t give this the attention it deserves. We believe it’s a viable channel for us and we’ve gotten some good opportunites here, but it’s time to hand it off to somebody with real expertise.

Spending $4k a month. Have scaled to $8k/month and saw leads increase accordingly, but things have slowed down and I can’t keep up with google enough to know if it’s the market or changes to google ads that are causing the slowdown. I can’t see queries in Google Analytics anymore and exact match is looking more like broad match every day. We don’t get enough conversions for automated bidding strategies like Max Conversions to really work. I don’t think….

I’d like to avoid signing up with an agency just to have less experienced account managers working on the account. Hoping for more of a white-glove approach if that’s something that’s out there.

Any recommendations? Any experiences hiring a dedicated freelancer instead of working with an agency? We don’t have the budget to bring somebody in-house full time.

Also, if you’re interested feel free to send me a PM.

If you are talking about sales slowing down over the last month. Then that is normal for B2B and SaaS as everyone is more focused on Christmas and holiday shopping season. You will still see a health amount of searches in December but a decrease in conversion is pretty normal for most brands.

Doesn’t matter if you go with an agency or a freelancer in the end. As you said, what matters is you want to get someone with experience and who will give your ad account attention. Getting the right person in the driver seat is what matters overall.

We likely wouldn’t be a good fit for your specific criteria (ad budget is lower than we typically work with) but I can probably offer some good “unbiased” advice on finding & hiring someone who can help you out.

    1. You can likely find a freelancer/consultant whose fee will be doable with your budget range, and they will give you more time & attention than most agencies. However, do not expect that they’ll be available full-time unless you’re paying them a full-time fee!
    2. Even though you have a budget, don’t cheap out on the freelancer. Nothing is more expensive than a cheap expert.
    3. Best tip to find someone? Look for folks who engage regularly in the PPC/Google Ads community and come recommended by others. UpWork and Fiverr are not very reliable these days unless you go for the top tier, there are plenty of good folks buried inside the gig platforms but it’s almost impossible to find them. Look on Google Ads subreddits and Twitter.
    4. If you do go with an agency, go with a small one that focuses on Google Ads. Don’t go with a massive agency (you’ll definitely get a junior specialist) and don’t go with a jack of all trades agency. Plenty of owners of smaller agencies around here that may be able to help you out!

I’ve sent you a DM as well, but just a bit of advice if you only want a freelancer vs and Agency – it’s pretty easy to hop on Upwork and at least look through your different options. Don’t have to be as worried about potentially getting scammed. I’ve used upwork in the past for all kinds of things and have been very impressed.

Even if you don’t hire someone, it’s free to create a job posting and just look at the people who apply. Best of luck!

I’ve sent you a PM. I have 11 years experience with Google ads. Happy to jump on a call to see if I can point out why you’d be facing the issues. I work with clients at similar budget levels as yours and I’ve seen this happen before with a few clients. It’s usually to do with tracking and audience setup. Or if the account is not maintained regular with basic housekeeping stuff like monitoring negative keywords or exclusion lists.
