    Hi everybody

I’m no SEO expert but business is tight so I need to do something. I’m looking at getting to the top of my local searches for my business category which is signs. First off, someone I know says they can get any business to the top of the local search in two weeks, is this even possible? It’s actually a friend of mine but they like to keep everything close, not help anyone and they’re often full of bull**** so not someone I would trust giving money to, they have a track record for not doing what they were asked. They have no experience in web other than building pages with leadpages so I’m not really keen on paying him money.

I’ve started to research my area so I’ve typed into google: Signs + area and got a list of businesses. I’m now researching the competitors Keywords in Google Ad tools and also backlinks. Their backlinks don’t make sense, they’re pretty much non existent sites and nothing I could sign up to.

I know I need to start getting backlinks so this is where I think I should begin. Is there a good place to start? It looks like I currently have 0 according to http://openlinkprofiler.org but the free ahrefs says I have 3.

Is there anything else I should start doing ASAP?

    Thanks

    Hey,

So I would suggest you get professional SEO help, from someone who specializes in Local SEO.

If you have some budget and you need leads, you can opt for paid ads on Google and other social media websites. This will bring in leads for the time being while your website SEO is being set up in the background.

Your friend who guarantees ranking in two weeks is spitting bs. You can achieve that but that usually involves poor links, citations and spams. Such rankings only last a day or so before Google corrects it.

Having a professional SEO person analyse your competitors and understand your business goals will help. They can analyse your keyword needs, content gaps and act accordingly.

Backlinks is not something you need to worry about right away, unless your Website’s SEO basics are strong.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in DMs. I have been in the Local SEO industry for 8 years now.

Local SEO is only one part of complete SEO. It is unlikely that only local SEO will work if the general SEO is clumsy. Judging by your desire for link building, your website is sick and most likely has low competitiveness in SERP. I agree with `cockyoreo’s` recommendation to invest in digital marketing for your website.

As stated your friend is selling snake oil so don’t use him or you’ll regret it.
If you want to do it yourself, checkout some case studies and blog posts from local seo companies like Whitespark, bright local, moz local. Watch vids from folks like Greg Gifford or Ruth Burr
