  • Learning the technical side of SEO

My SEO mentor took me under her wing back in October 2018 and taught me the basics regarding research, content, white hat and black hat (and grey hat), why Google does what Google does, and so on. But we never got into what she referred to as the “technical side” of SEO. I remembered her mentioning something about automation but that was it.

Obviously I’d like to finish my training and do more than content. Does anyone have any links or videos they would recommend for this?

In my humble opinion, If you have any dev background or can understand technical terms, i’d suggest starting with an audit tool to understand the basics first. Recommending deepcrawl, screaming frog or Ahrefs. This is a goos start, i dont think if there is one source for a full course, this is something you need to learn overtime, researching applying what you have learned.
Audit a big website and try to understand every single error and why its an issue. Deepcrawl also has some excellent tech SEO material so sign up for their news.

    Hope it helps!

Technical SEO involves the more advanced enhancements of your website. Microdata Schema (Further on page enhancements), Standard JSON-LD Schema (Google, Bing Preferred), HTML tag enhancements, Server modifications for speed, Deep diving competitor websites, Research projects for extremely long content, advanced Off-page SEO. All these topics could not be possibly covered in a Reddit post, but the topics mentioned above should help you in your search for more knowledge.

    Other Topics:- Image Enhancements

    – Google Analytics Deep Dives

    – Full Audit Deep Dive

    – Trend Research

    – Predictive Search Research

    – Local Citations (If Applicable)

When it comes to automation, try to stay away from Automated content, unless you’re a feed website that pulls in and shares information around the web and provides proper accreditation. Once you start pulling automated data you start getting into (Greyhat, Blackhat SEO) if you don’t follow Google Webmaster Guidelines.

    Good Luck in your research
