Last stage of my PPC interview, what technical questions have you gotten during interviews?

The interviewer is also knowledgeable in PPC.

Edit to be more specific: It is about working in Google Ads and for an agency. They already asked all about my background, I’m assuming this will be a lot more technical.

Hey, there’s an endless amount of questions for this. Are you talking specifically about PPC (Google/Bing/Microsoft Ads) or does this include SMM (Meta/TikTok Ads)? What niche is this for (Ecommerce, B2B, SaaS, Lead Gen)? Is this for an agency or for an in-house role?

If I were them, I’d hand you my computer with a campaign open on it and ask you to do an audit in front of us. This will show me if you have an understanding of the ins and outs of the platform and can provide anything additional to what is already there.

I guess things like KPIs, tracking (tag manager etc.), familiarity with platforms (Google Ad Words). They may also ask you to do some kind of exercise in excel and find the best/worst keywords and campaigns. I have been asked all of these at some point on various interviews.

I’ve interviewed a lot of people for PPC.

I’ll typically ask the basics and listen closely to how they speak about ads. If they don’t know, they’ll bullshit their answer. If they have read about it but haven’t seen it in their day-to-day, you can tell. If they do know, then they’ve passed.

    Name some ad extensions:

A: “Ad extensions? Those are extensions to your ads… to make them longer.”

B: “Well, let’s see. There’s the locations… [long pause] …there’s the extensions that tell you about your business, can’t remember what they’re called.”

C: “Location, callout, structured snippets, call, I can keep going or describe them if you want.

I will say it’s interesting how many people I interview for senior roles who fit into A & B.

The last stage is usually your cultural/team fit interviews.

What structural methodology do you use?

How do you audit a brand-new account?

    What’s your optimization process?

If they know your background, then I assume they won’t be asking questions that go beyond your level of experience. Although, if they do, then it’s to probe your limitations.

Here are some technical questions that you may encounter during the interview:

    * How do you structure a PPC account?
    * How do you research and select keywords for a PPC campaign?
    * How do you structure a search ad group?
    * How do you measure the success of a PPC campaign?
    * How do you optimize a PPC campaign?
    * How do you use negative keywords in a PPC campaign?
    * How do you use ad extensions in a PPC campaign?
    * How do you use conversion tracking in a PPC campaign?
    * How do you use retargeting in a PPC campaign?
    * How do you use A/B testing in a PPC campaign?

It’s important to be able to demonstrate your knowledge of best practices and show that you can apply this knowledge to real-world scenarios. It may also be helpful to have examples of PPC campaigns you have worked on in the past and to be able to discuss the results and any optimizations you made.
