No, I’d say it’s still in the early(ish) adopter phase. There also still isn’t a clear cut way for businesses to monetize.

It is the most downloaded app on both android and iOS devices. One would have to look at its performance relative to that of Instagram to determine it growth trajectory. It is pretty much on its way to replacing IG.

I don’t think it’s dying anytime soon but it should probably start capitalizing on its hype now. Their biggest twist is their organic growth and focus on everyday creators rather than the highly produced stuff you see on YouTube and Instagram nowadays. Sooner or later, Instagram is gonna hop back on the organic formula, especially with their latest announcements for IGTV, forcing TikTok to change it up a bit.

They are only starting to ramp up their ad inventory, targeting and offerings to publishers. They just passed 2 billion downloads – they are just getting started.

Nothing to add, other than: I hope so.

I feel like right now in quarantine it’s only going to go up, but this app is like vine in the way that it’s not stable enough, the content relies on organic growth as mentioned and there’s a limit to how much it can rely on that in the sense that when private people stop producing or get sick of it then there’s not much left. Snapchat is different but it also relied on private peoples content at first (tho it mostly wasn’t shared for everyone to see since it was snapping between people or the most exposure used to be posting a story for 24hrs) but then it added the feed where you see big pages or brands content.
The same argument about relying on private peoples content (in contrast to big pages or networks like buzzfeed or nowthis or any other entity that it’s job is to produce content) can be applied to Instagram or Facebook, but only partly because they incorporated these big pages/networks into the essence of the platform and now most of the content there is from these entities. Applying this argument that stresses the limit of organic growth on Instagram: it can be applied to memes (assuming they’re created by private people) and ‘normal’ peoples posts (selfies, food pics or just peoples profiles) that make up a big portion of its content. However in both memes and ‘normal posts’ they demand way less exposure and effort from a person, in contrast to posting a whole video on tiktok.
My conclusion is that it’s not a stable platform like Instagram and Facebook have built, but rather it’s a ‘hype’ platform which goes all the way up and fast but dies at the same fast rate.

Tik Tok is nowhere even close to it’s decline.

315 million downloads in Q1 of 2020, that’s the most downloads of any app ever in a quarter.

They started testing in-app advertising sometime last year, they started split testing more invasive advertising (ad video every 5-10 scrolls) a few months ago. They have an amazing algorithm that can not only pinpoint what users are interested in, but even sense when users are getting sick of ads and can ease back on them.

If tik tok figures out a way to easily implement photo content on their platform they might be able to replace IG. This is just the beginning..

Based on people I see online, it is still gaining new users rather quickly.

TikTok is still in its infancy stage. It’s actually gaining more momentum as there are now more users.

It’s just the beginning of TikTok. They’re not going to die unless someone else makes something better or if they decide to sell TikTok to someone else.

Anyone know how they get to their video count numbers? Chinese companies have cooked their books in the past, I’m wondering if there are artificially generous with their algorithm to keep people engaged

I’d say it’s still at it’s peak but it can only go down from here so I’d take advantage of it while you can

    Very few qualified comments here.
Also Facebook and Instagram are not dying. Snapchat on the other hand…

Nope. However, if they can’t find new features to their app in the next 6-12 months, they might die out in a year or two just like what happened to Vine.
