I created a video for a brand but they are telling me to fill out a W2 form so they can go on with the payment and I don’t feel comfortable giving out my personal information especially my social security info. Do brands usually ask you for this? I never had a brand ask me to fill out a W2 form.

I’d expect a 1099 instead. They probably don’t contract out too much.

This happened with me after some work with Danner Boots. Just because a brand might be big doesn’t mean they know best practices.

Or, if less than $600, may not be necessary? (if I understand that correctly)?

You could get an EIN to use instead on your social.

You will need to fill out a W9 as a contractor in the United States. This would be your social security number unless you have an LLC. Then you would give them what is called a FEIN or EIN.
