A brand reached out to me. I have like 180k very engaging followers and they want to send me products and they say if I give them an authentic review they will consider a paid partnership.

They can’t give me any goals that would lead to a partnership. They just say if they like the content. (???)

I’m scared they are trying to fool me and the moment they have free content from me. I will not hear from them.

Should I do the free stuff in the hopes of getting paid? Or should I stand my ground and stand for payments? What would you do?

This on Insta? Look up any others who have mentioned or reviewed the brand and see if they got a partnership or sponsored post from them.

For paid partnerships in social media, it depends on the goal of the campaign.

You would typically get paid a certain amount of money, based on the followers you have, and the amount of posts made, and not results.

Get paid up front, under contract, and if it’s monthly, bill in advance.

If it feels weird, and you’re unhappy, don’t do it.

Have you done paid partnerships before and gained the companies sales/added value to their brand? Is the product something you would purchase yourself and you think your followers would purchase if you advertise it?

You get the product for free, right, so I’d definitely weight up if the effort of making a couple of videos that could lead to a paid partnership and possibly open more doors for you in the future worth it for you.

There’s hundreds of influencers with big followings these days they’re literally all over Instagram and tiktok, so I don’t think the brand would struggle to find someone else willing to do it for free product, but if you do bring value to their brand then it could be a good opportunity for you.

They could send you product and pay you and then not gain any sales or engagement from it which would be a lose lose for them so I can see why they would want to test the water first.

It’s up to you, I know nothing about influencer stuff, but I saw the comments saying don’t work for free, so I thought I’d answer with a different perspective.

I’m pretty sure the massive influencers with millions of followers started out advertising for free products and some even buying the products themselves and then started charging once the brands saw they brought sales in, that’s me assuming you haven’t already done that seeing as you asked this question. Just my opinion, though, it’s totally up to you ????

I accept free products (if it’s something I’d actually like) and tell the brand that I prioritize paid work and can’t make any promises about whether or not I’ll share (if I like it, I might share in a story). Then I tell them if they’d like to work with me, I’m happy to send my media kit and rate sheet and hopefully we can find something that works for both of us. I never share things that aren’t authentic to who I am (paid or unpaid), to me that’s really important.

As a SMM for a brand I would NEVER not pay an influencer with 180K followers. We really only try and do unpaid partnerships with micro influencer accounts under 5k. Most accounts even with only 30k followers are charging around $500-$800 a post. I’ve even had accounts with 2K followers ask for paid partnerships lol. If you genuinely like the brand and want the free product then I say go for it! But definitely don’t go out of your way when you’re not getting paid.
