  • Is there any reason a competitor would backlink to my website?

Posted by seohelper on May 6, 2020 at 2:09 am

Ran a report and my main competitor came up in the results as someone who is backlinking to me. I had a Google of why and couldn’t find an answer.

I’m also not sure what page they are backlinking me to as that doesn’t come up in my report. Anyway to find out this?

Anyone do this as practice? If so, what are the advantages?

I have competitors link to one of my pages because it’s a good resource and ranks #1 on Google. And I know which of their pages the link is from, a page that is related, but not directly competing for my keyword.

Backlinko did a study, or maybe it was just a comment, that linking to useful and relevant pages helps with SEO.

yes, there are plenty of reasons for your competitor. these are

    1) so that you can access your competitor websites

    2) to study their backlinks and use it to improve your websites

    3) to study your competitor online authority

You’ll find the exact page using MOZ, you get 10 free searches on the free plan.

Linking to other similar and resourceful sites is good for their own seo, this is most likely the reasoning.

I’d also bet the link is market no follow so check that as well
