  • Is social media really the cheapest way to advertise a small business?

Posted by Asceticwire on May 3, 2023 at 10:54 am

As a part-owner of a small family operation, using Instagram and Facebook (we mainly cater to people over 40, heh) has been great as a free tool to advertise and talk to our clients. Still, as we don’t use any paid services or ads, we’re not doing that well in this department and would love to find new ways that are cheap but organic (no paid shares and likes and such) to reach people. Any suggestions?

Post daily, make Reels, do a giveaway with other local businesses, follow and interact with other local businesses.

I am in the health business for clarification, and I find that Google is better than social media.

It really depends on what you are selling, is it a service or product?

I think so, just depends on how you post and how you convey info in a post, and which platforms you use. Be careful about certain rules for businesses like copyrighted music and what not. It was a lot easier to do this like 6-7 years ago, but with algorithm changes it might be a little trickier.

Content Marketing: Create valuable content that your audience will find interesting or informative, such as blog posts, videos, and infographics. Share your content on social media and use SEO best practices to rank your content on search engines.

If your target is 40+ and local, you might try some earned media in local papers, TapInto, and other local media. Look for a newsworthy angle to pitch – family run business thrives after pandemic, celebrates xx years in business, wins award, etc…

Also think of sponsoring events frequented by your target with a door prize or something.

Really hard to say without knowing the business, but there is some old-fashioned pr/marketing that may help build your brand and business.

    Good luck!

I can totally relate to your situation! I once helped a friend with their small business, and we faced a similar challenge. We found that using Instagram growth strategies, like collaborating with local influencers and engaging with our target audience, helped us reach more people organically. We even tried using Ascendviral, an Instagram growth service, which helped us improve our reach without resorting to paid likes or shares. I’d recommend exploring these strategies and seeing what works best for your business. What kind of content are you currently sharing on Instagram, and how do you engage with your audience?
