  • Is Hootsuite certification worth it?

Posted by newL25 on March 1, 2023 at 9:14 pm

    Hey everyone!
I want to get more certifications, so my resume would look more appealing to hiring managers 🙂
I’m thinking to pass ***Hootsuite Academy Advanced Social Advertising Certification Course***, which costs US$250 which is pricey for me now, so the question is – is it worth it? maybe someone had passed it – what are your thoughts? maybe there are some better certifications to get?
And I’m super interested to see your opinions!!

Thanks for all the suggestions and comments

I would also go ahead and get Google Analytics Certified. That’s a free certification!

Haven’t done it personally but have used Hootsuite in my time…that said, I’m a VP of social and seeing it on a resume wouldn’t make the candidate any more or less appealing.

At this point, Sprout and Hootsuite seem dated, always have API issues, stats don’t reflect properly, new features don’t work and posting natively is always better, so spending $250 to get certified seems like a waste of money and time.

That said, some marketing agencies might be impressed…but I work in entertainment and digital media and would prefer someone be an expert with the actual platforms, as opposed to a wonky tool like Hootsuite.

I don’t know about the Hootsuite cert specifically but it sounds like your end goal is to just be a more appealing applicant.

Maybe instead of spending time on the cert, when applying, mock up some example posts for that business to show you have what it takes for the job. I’m the social manager at an agency and if I saw that from an applicant it would have an immediate impact for sure.

Not sure if this is great overall advice or if some managers would see that as a bit too forward but something like that would jump out to me personally much more than a cert when choosing from a sea of applicants. All the best on your search regardless.

They’ve recently revamped the Hootsuite certification so it’s all new information. Plus I’m sure if you reach out to their social team they could likely let you know if their are any promotions or the like going on!

Showing you had the gumption to go get certifications is likely more important than which certifications you actually have. I’d recommend GA4 (in case your GA cert is for the old analytics) cuz that WILL actually help you. Otherwise load up on Hubspot or Twitter certs that are free. Just list Hootsuite on your list of skills. You don’t need to pay money to show you know it.

As an employer of marketing folks, having a Hootsuite credential wouldn’t sway me beyond thinking you know your way around HS. HS is good, don’t want to sound dismissive, but I want to employ someone that understands and has used marketing automation. Whether it’s social scheduling or whatever tool were use, I expect you to get up on it very quickly after you’re employed. So no, that doesn’t sound like a good investment to me. Kinda sounds like a money grab from HS for companies that have dedicated “development” funds in their yearly.
