  • Is everyone just tidying up their following list this year?

This year (I know it also happened before this year but especially this year) a lot of people I know have tidied up their following list and some even unfollowed me. Like people are getting really selective who they choose to follow nowadays. Especially on TikTok and Instagram I see. Why is this?

I normally do this once a year for multiple reasons. I’ll unfollow people I never interact with, delete content that doesn’t inspire or provide value in my life. There’s too much competing for our attention these days so it seems helpful to trim the fat. I even mute family members who post stupid shit or time-wasting memes in an effort to put more positivity at the forefront of my feed. Nothing personal against most people. Just a digital detox and declutter to focus on what’s most important. Social media can be a cesspool of toxicity so waiving the Marie Kondo wand and sparking some joy keeps me sane on social.

Yep, noticed that too! Seems like everyone’s Marie Kondo-ing their followings. Maybe it’s the overload of content. People want their feeds to be on point. TikTok and Instagram are like follow battlegrounds now. Quality over quantity, I guess. Wonder if it’s some trend or just a 2023 mood
