  • Is Curated Content Still Worth Sharing on Social Media in 2023?

    Hello everyone!

I’m curious to hear your thoughts on whether sharing curated content on social media will still be relevant in 2023. With the constant stream of information available on the internet, it seems like everyone is sharing their own original content these days. However, I also see value in curating and sharing content from other sources that align with our interests or message.

What do you think? Will curating and sharing content from other sources still be a valuable way to engage with our followers and contribute to the conversation on social media in 2023? Or will the focus shift more toward original content creation? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments!

Hi! Maybe to re-phrase the question: does your target audience still find curated content engaging? In general, the answer is that audiences certainly still find curated content engaging when that content is uniquely impactful or entertaining. For example, BuzzFeed still generates significant traffic from content curated off of this site. They pick the most entertaining stories from comments, and because the wider audience is not on Reddit, they find it unique. Others successfully curate lists of successful restaurant from Yelp comments. And if there’s big breaking news in a community, a curated list of Tweets from celebrities reacting to the news can still generate attention. Hope that helps!

Really good question. I work in healthcare, and often create content giving highlights of a topic (e.g. 5 reasons to get a pneumococcal vaccine), but then also include a link to a longer article by another organization like Mayo Clinic. I feel like it is the best of both worlds – they can just absorb my “Coles notes” version, or they have the option for the deeper dive. My analytics show me that not too many people read the link, but some do. It also gives my content some validity. On the whole though, I feel like there is less appetite for meaty content, more appetite for mindless entertainment.

Curated absolutely still matters. And it’s a great filler for when your owned content is a little thin. The thing it comes down to is: always add value

Give your audience something in exchange for their time – a story they haven’t read previously, tips that make their day a little easier, a laugh, industry insights that make them more knowledgeable than before…just give them *something*.

We use a 2/3 – 1/3 ratio of curated versus owned, and I know lots of people use the 4-1-1 method too. We’ll probably never do a solely owned content strategy.
