Is changing publish dates bad?
I use WordPress, and changing publish dates helps me reorganize articles as well as make them seem more timely. For example, my “top X products 2022” articles look nicer when the date is also sometime in 2022.
I remember at least one site user commenting that an article looked off because its date was different than what’s in the title. That user probably saw the publish date on a Google SERP.

there’s an argument that “freshness” in an article will help it rank. We’ve done some testing and it looks like updating + changing the date does have positive results.
