  • Is 15 reels for a 3 day a week part time job too much?

Context: it is my first week at the job& also my first job fresh out of uni.

My boss wants me to make 15 reels a week (5 of which are on a cooking page so I have to cook for that content, the other 10 on the two respective business accounts he owns ) , mind you I negotiated this down from 60 videos for the 3 days.

This is not including his expectation of me to do community engagement, affiliate management (reaching out to affiliates) , cold messaging at least 60 creators for both brands per working day and 2-3 hrs of live streaming.

Plus this week he also had me make a moodboard with colours, different fonts, different logo options, and sample graphics of the products with each logo and a small break down of the ideal customer.

It is supposed to be a 3 day a week part one job (24hrs)

I don’t know if I’m the problem and a slow worker or something , or not good enough for this job (it’s my first one out of uni and my degree is not in social media or marketing ) but I wasn’t able to complete all my tasks and found myself struggling and feeling really overwhelmed.

I let him know I worked overtime but didn’t even out how much I actually worked over time (I put less hours on the timesheet cause I was scared he’d think I’m so slow or incompetent)

Anyway, he said he wants to have a meeting Monday and I am really scared because I feel like I am not doing the job right and I don’t know why things take me so long.

Anyway, is this a normal work load for 3 days a week or am I just really bad at my job? I’m so scared of getting fired after one week.

Imo asking for too much stuff. Even if you would do half of it. Don’t stress. If he’s firing you don’t feel bad. That guy truly has either 0 quality standards or doesn’t know how much he should pay for what he’s asking.

Would I be correct in guessing you’re basically the marketing lead for these three businesses?

Way too many. 1-3 would be ideal. Probably 1-2 since you’re part time! Explain how long each part takes and that if they want high quality then you need to do less videos. It doesn’t matter if you post everyday, if no one cares. Better to post less and be quality posts.

Sounds excessive. Like he wants to employ you for a minute, then use the years’ worth of content he can stretch out. I’ve seen it happen.

It’s way too much. He sounds incredibly out of touch. I used to work for a place that demanded 2-3 reels pr day, every day of the week. I quit after a month.

Way way way too much for someone who works part time. 2-3 videos max plus the other tasks ..

This is far too much work for one part-time employee. I think the person who hired you is making unreasonable asks and doesn’t understand the workload for each task they’ve assigned. There are plenty of people that are full-time video producers, full-time video editors, full-time community managers, and full-time influencer and affiliate managers. To expect one person to execute all of these roles well in a part-time capacity is out-of-touch with reality.

If you’re prepping and filming cooking, 2 vids is a lot. Sounds like your boss doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Mate this is a slave labour job for that much work.

You can do better anywhere else – don’t kill yourself for this slave driver.

Tha’s a lot, the account shouldn’t need all that cos the contents are going to be easilly cannibalized.

That’s bonded labour! 3 a day seems okish.

Either this is fake or business owners are becoming extra delusional lately due to AI.

I’ve had a manager double my workload as a copywriter since they found out about chatGPT. I could definitely deliver better quality texts overall bouncing ideas off GPT but doubling the output just wasn’t physically possible without drastically lowering the quality of the work or working overtime and on overdrive and getting burnt out.

My advice to you, OP, is to bounce and find a reasonable employer. This one doesn’t value your health or the health of his business(es).

We are a small family business and we have to do all of these ourselves, but not even us expect such huge numbers, and good quality content takes a lot of time, so yes, kind of too much of the company to ask from you.
