So I was curious today and typed in my name in search. There is an account with a username that’s my name. Also my name is not common. I have never met anyone who has my name. I’ve searched my name on Google, all social medias before and I have never seen anyone else have my first and last time.

This account has zero post, zero followers, following zero. No profile, no bio. Just blank account. Only a username. It says the account joined 2 years ago. You can message them but I don’t want too.

It’s just really weird. I doubt reporting it will do anything since my own Instagram is just a random username. I’ve tried to completely come off social medias with my real name for a while now.

Should I be worried? Has this happened to anyone? Could it be some kind of bot thing. Idk. Nothing has happened in 2 years (I don’t know when the account made its username my name tho).

It’s either a bot, catfish or someone who has the same name as you.

My first name is pretty common, but my last name isn’t. Still, I know there’s people out there somewhere in the world with the same name as me.

There’s absolutely no chance you have a unique name, as in there isn’t a single other person in the world with that name. As uncommon as it might be, there’s no way it’s “1 in 8,100,000,000” uncommon.

Could it be possible that you were the one who made it yourself?

My name is unique as well. If I search my own name, I either found my own profiles or they gave me wrong results because my last name doesn’t exist anywhere.

I tried joining TikTok not so long ago, and was surprised that my username had been taken. But the profile was empty. No following, no follower, no post, no profile picture.

    That is just not possible…

Turned out I was the one who created that account. I managed to login using one of my emails.

Do you have Facebook? I know at one point meta was automatically creating instagram profiles from Facebook profiles. Happened to two people I know

It’s not uncommon for people or even bots to create placeholder accounts for various reasons. Since this account has been inactive for two years with no posts or followers, it’s likely not a significant threat. However, it’s good to stay cautious. Here’s what you can do:

    1. **Report the account**: Instagram does have mechanisms for handling impersonation, even if your current account isn’t under your real name. It’s worth trying.
    2. **Monitor the account**: Keep an eye on it in case any suspicious activity starts occurring.
    3. **Protect your online identity**: Ensure your accounts are secure and consider setting up alerts for any new accounts using your name.

If this account isn’t doing anything and you are not a public figure, I’d not take action for now, because I recently saw an article about this micro influencer who married into a billionaire family and harassed a woman for “stealing” her new married name on IG. She reported her for impersonation, claiming that her family were the only ones in America with that name. Turns out there are people outside America, haha.

(Not suggesting you’re anything like her! Just that there doesn’t look like there’s enough evidence to go on for now).

That said I can def understand feeling weirded out if you’ve never previously encountered this “name twin”.

I have one – we somehow have the same name despite the different linguistic origins of our surnames and having totally different nationalities/cultures. But I have always seen her on socials when trying to get my/our name.

It’s possible it’s a bot or someone trying to impersonate you, but without any activity, it doesn’t seem like a major threat.
