Hey guys, i run a meme account with 133.7k followers. I haven’t been getting more than +100 followers in a whole week and just after turning it private i got 1.7k followers in about 1 week. But i turned public again and it’s still the same issue. This week has also been the worst with only less than 6% engagement rate from people who don’t follow me and likes have decreased almost in half 10-12k to 5-6k likes per post. Is anyone else experiencing this? If yes what did you do to fix it? should i just turn my page private and keep it that way? How frequently are you posting? Using hashtags or not? Etc.
    thanks for reading

Recently the trend for meme pages seems to be private accounts that push for your to dm it to your buddies in the hope that they’ll follow the page to see the post. A lot of this stuff also depends on the content itself. Have you been doing something different lately? Try switching up the content a bit to see if it works. Also for engagement don’t just post funny things, post stuff that has something that people have strong feelings on. Doesn’t have to be negative, something that sparks conversation.

Hey dude I run a page as well with 108k experiencing the same problems. I’ve been paying more attention to what content is posted and receives the most engagement, which has helped to grow the page. I also don’t use a tonne of hashtags as well.

Yeah this last week has been TERRIBLE for us too – I run a brand account with 203k – have been wondering if they changed something

Can you go back in time and compare the engagement of last year to this week? With three of you reporting lower engagement this week, I’d guess last year showed similar results for this week. Give or take ?‍♂️

honestly, i think the real reason is meme accounts on insta don’t reach that much traction anymore. back in 2016 there were so many smaller meme accounts getting lots on engagement but now there’s just the really generic ones with a million followers who get that engagement. teenagers don’t have favourite meme pages like they used to

people are turning to tik tok for their ‘memes’. even twitter, where those memes originate, is better suited for the style than instagram still. i think the landscape is shifting to fit the purpose of each platform with the emergence of tiktok
