Impressions/clicks nosedived after changing to shared budget

Posted by _moose_drool on March 31, 2023 at 4:27 pm

I have 4 campaigns on maximize conversions that have been working well until I shifted to a shared budget 2 days ago. After that, impressions, clicks, and conversion rates have nosedived without other changes to the campaigns. Any ideas?

I get to chat with a Google specialist at least once a quarter for my biz and I just did this quarter’s calls last week and he mentioned shared budget to me. As with all of Google Ads, everything has this period of learning because regardless of the data it already has on the ads, it is now trying different strategies with the budget and being that it was only a couple days ago, your performance may gradually go up over the coming days/week. That being said, basically any new features Google introduces, it has flaws and kinks and it will always cost extra budget when changing many of the different settings in the backend, especiallly after running an ad for awhile.

I ended up not changing our settings. I tend to not change settings after ads are performing. If I get extra budget to test something new, I create a new ad but maintain the original. Hope this helps.

You should only use a shared but if you have a portefolio strategy. I would create a portefolio strat with the average cpa from 30

Ok too days it’s not too bad ? You can max cpc it if you are worried about the learning phase. What is your volume and spend like ? Your thing must say there is 5 days left in the learning phase

I run a campaign with 20 different groups running a shared budget, it was shocking for the first few weeks but has really picked up.

One thing that really annoys me about it though is that I always get warnings the accounts misconfigured because it’s using a shared budget.
