IG Account has tanked since middle of October, and I can’t figure out why.
I manage an IG post for someone involved in music production (think producer, beatmaker, etc). We mainly take video/content from artists that they have worked on and put them into a template with a clear credit graphic that says what they did (produced by…). We’ve always battled takedowns but now being able to tag a post/story with the audio we don’t see those as much. Content is high-quality video (edited in Premiere) but does vary based on what the artist posts.
We decided to change up the video format to make it a little more visually engaging about a month ago. Since then, our views have decreased significantly, from the thousands to under 500. Our reach is down significantly as well, same with likes/shares/comments. Obviously my boss is getting frustrated, and I’m trying everything I can to figure it out. I’ve tried hashtag refinement, commenting on similar posts, follow/unfollow, changing posting times based on the recommendations on the Professional Dashboard, and I’m out of ideas.
For example, today we posted a story & reel for a release. The story was reposted by a big artist and a big industry name. They also reacted to the story and messaged about it. Ten minutes later when the reel posts, crickets. When I tagged in the reel, it also did not send it to them.
Even original content which has traditionally done very well (think BTS, memes) is doing less than half of what it used to do.I do know in the beginning that they paid for a few “growth” services and bulked up their follower count a lot. We have a lot of followers that are inactive/don’t interact with us. That was a few years back so I would hope it wouldn’t influence things.
Any ideas would be helpful. This is a big part of my role at the company and I hate feeling like I’m failing and unable to do anything to move the needle.
