I'm considering hiring a freelance web developer to help me build my lead generation sites for local businesses. I have been doing all of this myself but looking to outsource to a freelancer. I want them to really know their SEO, so I was thinking of hiring a few and then test their sites to figure out who does the best job. I will provide them with the content, and just let them plug it into the site.

Can you recommend a free SEO tool that I can use for this so I can check their results? I want to evaluate as many aspects of SEO as possible. Also any other advice on how to vet / hire a freelancer for this is most welcome!

Honestly, this seems like overkill. Just write down your expectations, draft your contract based around it, and make sure you put the timelines and success you’re willing to accept for that money.

What I mean with last part is that, that there’s no given that something will be X success. Find a balance between “this is reasonable request” and set it in the contract, with fines, ways to mediate. Additionally make sure you add premiums for effects, that motivates people.

Mediocre pay, get’s mediocre workers (at best). I always liked the jobs where I was paid base+premiums at goals, but I’m starting to ramble.

No “free” tool will allow you to monitor everything, beside big 3:
Google Analytics, Google search console and your own eyes/job list/self report of contractor.

To evaluate the SEO capabilities of potential web developers, you can use free tools like Google Search Console to check site performance, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools for backlink analysis, and SEMrush’s free tools for site audits. These tools can help you assess various aspects of SEO, such as keyword rankings, site health, and backlinks.

Always welcome to test with Morningscore – not free but 14 days trial without credit card, so you could use it for the measurement phase.
