How to work with influencers in the nonprofit sector
Posted by loves2travel2 on September 1, 2024 at 7:30 pmI work for a human services agency and we want to increase our reach to find foster parents. Can anyone recommend how to best connect and work with influencers?

There are organizations that can help you with digital fund raising. One example is donor drive. Stream for a cause is another. There are several.
If you’re a larger organization you could reach out to talent agencies that manage the large influencers.

GuestSeptember 2, 2024 at 3:37 amI have a decent following. You really have to be transparent. Whenever a nonprofit approaches me, I am always flexible. I understand they may not have the biggest budget so I work things out. I usually end up doing things for free. Find a way to work it out with them. I would reach out to influencers that are foster children. They are more likely to help out.

GuestSeptember 2, 2024 at 6:50 amTo connect with influencers, find those who truly care about foster care, build genuine relationships, and provide them with easy-to-share content. Focus on creating campaigns that resonate with their audience, and track the results to improve your approach. Authentic partnerships can help you reach more potential foster parents.

GuestSeptember 2, 2024 at 1:30 pmAlways make sure they understand and respect the voice of your nonprofit and risk levels for patients, donors, and mission. Remember, influencers are about creating connections for your agency that, like most nonprofits, live under the public’s scrutinizing eye. If they can keep that in mind with regard to words and content, their efforts may help your agency increase followers and message reach exponentially. Influencers do their best with little supervision, but nonprofits are smart to truly connect with their chosen Influencers before saying run with it.

GuestSeptember 2, 2024 at 3:55 pmFirstly, spend some time searching for the right people. Get to know them, figure out if they’re the best person to share your messages. Once you’ve decided the people you want to work with, start engaging in their comments section. Instagram is usually best for this. People are used to being social there. Maybe once or twice a week for a couple of weeks just engage. Then you can reach out with a DM and let them know how much you appreciate their content and that you have a partnership opportunity you’d like to discuss with them. Be prepared to explain what your organization does, how you think they can help, and what, if anything, you can offer them. If you’ve done the work to pick the right people, their posts will be thoughtful, genuine, and impactful. 💕

GuestSeptember 3, 2024 at 12:22 amOne effective strategy could be to identify influencers who are already aligned with or supportive of nonprofit causes. Start engaging with their content regularly and make your interactions noticeable. If they see that you’re active and genuinely involved, it might be easier to open a discussion about collaborating on fostering and adoption topics. Building a strong relationship with these influencers can help amplify your message and reach a wider audience.
